Toreon - Business driven cyber consulting

Between 27 Feb 2023 and 26 may 2023 I was given the opportunity to do a 13 week internship at the consulting firm Toreon, located in Antwerp, Belgium.

Toreon is a company focused on cyber security and consultancy services. The company was founded in 2013 and has since built a strong reputation as a leading service provider in the field of securing IT infrastructures and protecting businesses from cyber attacks.

Toreon's key services include performing risk assessments, developing security policies, conducting penetration tests and providing training and workshops for employees on cybersecurity. The company has a wide range of clients, including government agencies, financial institutions, healthcare organisations and technology companies.

Toreon has a team of experienced cybersecurity experts with extensive knowledge of the latest technologies and trends in cybersecurity. The company continuously invests in developing its team and researching the latest security solutions and technologies.

In collaboration with Matthias Minschart, a fellow intern and student at Thomas More. We successfully completed three projects.

The internship mostly revolved around automating repetitive tasks that were now done manually within the company. This was done using programs written in Python.

The first project revolved around automating the generation of reports within SecurityReporter. For this project, I've written my own Python library to easily navigate the CWE-framework, since the existing ones were deprecated.

For the second project I've written a Burp Suite extension to passively look for standard error pages. When a match of more than 80% is found, an issue is created with the name of the webserver.
The extension also provides a user interface to easily add a new page to the database.

Lastly, two programs were written to save time for the managers within Toreon.
The fist program automated the creation of relations in IonBIZ, the ERP system of Toreon, with information gathered from HubSpot.
The second program automated the checking of timesheets for all the members of Toreon. This saves the managers at least two hours of manual work each week.
